Deputy PM: Russia ramps up imports of foods from friendly countries

MOSCOW, Mar 15 (PRIME) -- There is no threat of a deficit of food emerging in Russia due to Western sanctions as Moscow is reorienting the market and ramping up imports of food from the friendly countries, the office of Deputy Prime Minister Viktoria Abramchenko said in a statement on Tuesday quoting her.

“There are no prerequisites for risks of a deficit or a deterioration of the assortment of goods under conditions of the external economic pressure. We will reorient the market, and we will set up the mutually beneficial trade by expanding the partnership network with the friendly countries,” she said as quoted by the office.

The Western sanctions will not lead to isolation of the Russian agricultural market, as the world is not limited to the U.S. and the E.U., while Russia is opening new markets and signing contracts with new suppliers. Over the past month and a half, the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight has approved imports of foods from more than 140 companies from Turkey, India, China, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan, she said.
